A Summer Project Like No Other
Most teenagers spend their summers swimming, gaming, or relaxing with friends. But fourteen-year-old Ellie from Williamstown, West Virginia, had a very different plan.
Instead of taking it easy, she set her heart on transforming a worn-out 1974 Wilderness camper into something bright, stylish, and completely her own.
She proudly named it her “Glamper,” a perfect mix of glamour and camper, and the project quickly became a showcase of her creativity and determination.

A Vision Built on Savings and Inspiration
Ellie had been saving money for months, gathering about five hundred dollars from chores, birthday gifts, and small jobs.
When she spotted an old camper listed for two hundred dollars on a community bulletin board, she knew she had found the perfect blank canvas.
The camper was in rough shape after years of camping and hunting trips, but Ellie did not let that scare her. She was inspired by her older brother, Isaiah, who had built a small cabin for himself and his friends.
Ellie wanted her own space too, but with a softer style and the comforts she loved, including electricity and Wi-Fi.

Bringing an Old Camper Back to Life
The first step was the toughest. Ellie had to empty the camper completely and scrub away years of dirt.
Once she created a clean starting point, she painted the outside a beautiful aqua blue called Mystic Sea.
The color gave the old camper a fresh and cheerful look. With help from her grandfather, Lawrence, Ellie learned carpentry basics, from fixing holes to adding strong braces. Little by little, the shabby camper began to shine again.
Inside, the finishing touches gave the glamper its heart. Ellie’s grandmother, Mary, helped her sew new seat cushions and curtains, adding comfort and personality. Together, they created a space that felt warm, bright, and welcoming.

Adding Charm and Personality
Throughout the summer, Ellie collected decorations that reflected her style. One of her most surprising finds was a vintage mannequin discovered in a closed warehouse.
She used Pinterest for design inspiration, choosing items that added charm and character. A retro electric fan, an old camera, and hand-sewn napkins from her grandmother gave the glamper a cozy, lived-in feel.
As the project neared completion, Ellie could already imagine how she would use her new space.
It would be perfect for sleepovers with friends, quiet afternoons reading, or practicing her ukulele. Every detail made the glamper feel like an extension of her own personality.

A Young Builder With Big Determination
Ellie’s journey from buying a rundown camper to turning it into a beautiful retreat is a true example of what hard work can achieve.
Her mother, Lori, proudly shared that she has never told Ellie she could not do something. With that support and Ellie’s own determination, the project became much more than a summer activity.
It became a reminder that creativity grows when you give it space to shine.
