James Lawler lived in Australia and really wanted to go to the Meredith Music Festival with his friends. Most people at the festival slept in small canvas tents on the ground.
James did not like tents at all because they were uncomfortable and hot. He looked at his small silver Toyota Prius and decided he could do something much better.
He wanted to bring his own home with him, but he didn’t have a big van or a truck. So, he decided to build a house right on top of his little car.

Building a Cabin on Wheels
James did not spend a lot of money on this project. In fact, he only spent about one hundred and fifty dollars. He was very creative and used materials he found for free or bought very cheaply.
He gathered scrap wood, metal sheets, and even an old stained-glass window to make it look fancy. He worked hard for a week to build a cute wooden structure that fit perfectly over the back of his hatchback.
It had a peaked roof like a real cottage, a proper door, and even a little chimney on top to make it look like a storybook house.
The Short but Famous Journey
When the house was finished, James drove it down the highway to the music festival. It was a funny sight to see a modern car carrying a rustic wooden cabin.
Other drivers stared in amazement as the little house with its chimney rolled down the road. At the festival, it was a huge hit. James slept comfortably in his wooden room while everyone else struggled with their tents.
He felt like a king in his castle, enjoying the music and the comfort of his unique creation.

The Police Stop the Fun
Sadly, the adventure did not last forever. On the way back home, the police saw the strange car and pulled James over.
The police officers were surprised by what they saw, but they told James that his car was not safe to drive on the road. The wooden house made the car too heavy and wide, and it covered the lights.
They gave James a fine for driving an unroadworthy vehicle. Although he had to take the house down, James became a local hero for his clever and bold idea.
